Gang Awareness in Spokane County

Created as part of the Gang Prevention and Community Awareness Program in Washington, this presentation was designed specifically for Spokane County in cooperation with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office and the Spokane Violent Crime Gang Enforcement Team. It is an educational tool for use primarily with parents/guardians, educators, and other community members who are interested in learning about gangs.  Ranging between 25 minutes and two hours, the "Gang Awareness In Spokane County" presentation is customizable to both the time and needs of each audience.

This no-cost presentation, it provides the information and knowledge necessary to recognize and understand the signs of youth gang activity, as well as how to prevent youth from falling victim to our local gangs. Also included is information on:

  • The origins of Spokane's gang problem
  • Gang culture
  • Risk and protective factors for gang membership
  • Why youth join gangs
  • Recognizing gang indicators and behaviors
  • Graffiti—tagging vs. gang-related
  • How to address the issue
