Prevention Youth Partnership

Who We Are

GSSAC'S Prevention Youth Partnership (PYP) is an action-oriented connector of our Washington Drug Free Youth (WDFY) chapters. In support of the 24 WDFY chapters of middle and high school youth in Spokane County, the goal of the PYP is to connect with every chapter providing youth leadership development, organizing for positive social norms, and serving as a resource contact on current issues.  Bringing together representatives from each of the WDFY chapters, encourages sharing ideas and increasing support for drug free youth and collaborative county-wide projects.

What We Do

The PYP's first project is participation in the Washington State "Let's Draw the Line" campaign. This campaign is sponsored by RUAD (Reduce UnderAge Drinking) and was launched last October at the Washington State Prevention Summit in Yakima.

The Spokane County event was held on February 21 at the Riverfront Park Ice Palace. Prevention Youth Board members helped to gather signatures on commitment cards as part of this campaign. Many adults committed to not provide alcohol to minors while youth committed to not participate in underage drinking.

Let's Draw the Line at Ice Palace

"Let's Draw the Line" t-shirts were handed out to all WDFY members who joined us for a fun day of skating. Spokane City Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick and Spokane City Council President Joe Shogan helped to draw the line to show their support for the youth's efforts.

Making a Difference

Thanks to a grant from Empire Health Foundation, we have been able to train more WDFY chapters in our puppet program. They, in turn, will visit area elementary schools and community centers. These teens are truly "Rock Stars" and have a huge impact on area youth with their message that it is "cool" to be drug free.

WDFY Puppet Team

The following schools have trained puppet teams and are available to present to groups:

Central Valley High School
East Valley High School
Lakeside High School
Mount Spokane High School
North Central High School
Riverside High School
Riverside Middle School
Rogers High School
West Valley High School
